NEWBERRY CATS A HIT IN JAPAN!

Felicia meeting Yukiko Ryo, poetess and translator of MITTENS, BARKIS and MARSHMALLOW

Clare would have been delighted to know that her books were finally published in Japan. In fact, MARSHMALLOW, published by the leading Japanese publisher Kodansha, received Japan's top national award for juvenile books in 2003.

In the Japanese publishing tradition, only well-respected poets and writers become translators of internationally popular books.  And so, well-known poetess Yukiko Ryu became the translator for all my mother's books published by Kodansha.

Yukiko Ryu was presented this award by the Princess****.  Ms. Ryu also came to visit me in Santa Fe.  Yukiko's special understanding of my mother's work and spirit gave us an immediate rapport.
